Happy Monkey officially opened its doors about a year ago, and the carefully curated selection of products has been steadily growing. The success they have seen in this past year is the result of an incredible, if not an unexpected journey that they have embarked upon.
When owners, Nicole and Eric visited Europe with their children, they were overcome with excitement checking out as many toy stores as they could and noticed that wooden and quality heirloom toys could be found in abundance. A very different reality than back home in the United States, where plastic reigns supreme. They wanted to replicate the experience they had overseas to the Miami area. With a background in business and two young children who love toys themselves, opening a toy shop was a natural next step. Then, Happy Monkey was born and named after their own two happy monkeys who are always eagerly discovering new ways to play.
Having the first year of your business takes place during a pandemic is tricky, but they were able to quickly adjust their business practices to allow for personal shopping appointments. They’ve also added some helpful educational items and perfected their online ordering system.
Since the pandemic, many families have opted to teach their children at home or engage in virtual learning in lieu of sending them to school. There’s nothing more important than keeping your kids safe, but let’s be honest, the average home isn’t equipped with the materials necessary to transform itself into a daycare or schoolhouse overnight. Happy Monkey is an asset for locals in the community because the shop has the resources necessary for homeschooling families, as well as supplemental materials for virtual learning. Many of the offered toys are perfect for those working with or attending Montessori or Waldorf School programs. This is is just one of the many ways that this boutique creates an above-average experience for shoppers--parents and children alike.
