ARTECHOUSE, the nation’s first innovative art space dedicated to digital and experiential art with multiple locations, presents Aqueous, at it's Miami location in South Beach. An immersive multimedia installation inspired by Pantone Color of the Year 2020 Classic Blue. Aqueous was created by the ARTECHOUSE Creative Team and includes the works of Miami-based artists Haiiileen and Alvin Heranandez. This exhibit was opened to the public on November 14 and will continue on view through April 14th, 2021.
Miami’s Aqueous, inspired by Classic Blue’s calming qualities, explores the color and its connection with water. Whether looking out at the vast horizon of the ocean or listening to raindrops fall, our water-filled surroundings instill a sense of peace and relaxation. This immersive multimedia installation, spread across two floors, seeks to similarly soothe the spirit by submerging visitors into an abstract exploration of liquid — its textures, movements, sounds, sensations, and relationship with light. Visitors are plunged into a water-filled world where the outside world melts away and they are enveloped with water’s rhythmic fluidity, inspired to create digital bioluminescence and contemplate the effect of Classic Blue on their personal journey.
Part of a series of immersive experiences inspired by Pantone’s Color of the Year, Classic Blue, Aqueous at ARTECHOUSE Miami, is a digital exploration of light and color through textures, motion, sounds, sensations, and their relationship to liquid. Conveying awareness through our own forms of expression, Aqueous was inspired by the healing and connecting powers of the oceans, as well as the dangers they face, and have translated these feelings into a number of installations. Our oceans heal, connect, and remind us that we are all part of one blue planet, even under the threat of climate change.
This theme was selected for the Miami location specifically to highlight its place as a coastal city poised to be greatly affected by climate change in the coming years. With Aqueous, the topic of climate change is approached in an abstract and artistic way. ARTECHOUSE Creative Team focused on the details of nature that makes our planet beautiful while drawing attention to environmental changes and our shifting oceans. The technology-driven installations highlight the beauty of liquids in nature, like falling water and the texture of light on the ocean. A LED light installation on view on the first level of the art space draws inspiration from bioluminescence which, while beautiful, is fueled by warmer seas. Another piece, displayed on the second floor, includes the graceful sounds of whales, which are quickly disappearing from our waters. The ocean is featured heavily in all of the installations, which made the Creative Team even more aware of the impact that climate change is having.
