Wioletta Bublik, born in Poland and settled in Miami in 2000. A mother and wife, school administrator by work, and a photographer by passion. Covid-19 made her realized that life is full of surprises and it’s just too short to continue postponing our dreams for later. Thanks to extra time caused by the pandemics she returned to her photography and started collaboration with “The Front Steps Project”.
The Front Steps Project is an amazing idea created by two photographers from Massachusetts, Cara Soulia, and Kristen Collins. Their goal was to portrait how people coped with living in isolation during COVID-19 times. In less than 2 months, this simple idea inspired hundreds of photographers around the United States and beyond. As of today, they have raised more than 3.25 million dollars for different charities.
Wioletta joined their project and during the months of quarantine, she dedicated to capturing family’s portraits at the entrance of their houses or condos. Her main idea was to document Miami families during the strange time of COVID-19, social distancing, quarantine; a photo which perhaps in the future, could become for these families, a historic memory of a pandemic time. “Very soon I realized that my photo rides were capturing more than an epidemic moment: they were expressing love, the strength of being together, and hope. All photos were happy, positive, and started to give me the optimism and energy, which I also needed”, says Wioletta. She was able to photograph over 100 families from the Miami area, many of them from Miami Shores, North Miami, and Miami Beach. As she ended her daily sessions, her families’ photos were posted on Instagram under @CapturesByViolet.
Her front steps photo sessions were totally free but she encouraged the participating families to make any donation possible toward The Lotus House, Miami established a foundation for homeless mothers and children.
The impact of The Front Steps Project is huge. Articles about this simple idea were published everywhere, from The Wall Street Journal, People Magazine, Brickell Magazine to The Boston Globe. In November, The Front Steps Project book with carefully chosen photos will be available nationwide and distributed by Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target. Four of Wioletta’s images were selected and will be included in the book. “The biggest and the sweetest surprised was that a photo taken by my 11-year-old son, Mateo, who assisted me during the session rides, was chosen as a back cover of the book”, adds proudly Wioletta. The book is available for pre-order on Amazon, click here to pre-order now.
At the end of May, when the quarantine and shutdown relaxed and people started to commute, travel, and go back to in-office work, Wioletta returned to her regular family, studio headshots, kids, and teenagers sessions. She also started the pre-production of her new project, which involves the family as a central character but captured from the close-up portrait format. “It’s a kind of a photography DNA project, which will capture the beauty of the union of two people and the final result: their kids”, says Wioletta.
