Cat Lovers, Cat Café is Open And it is Your Place to Visit

By Celyta Jackson June 25, 2020

The Cat Café South Beach is a mash-up of a delightful coffee shop and a giant foster home for about 30 adoptable rescue cats from around Miami Beach. It’s a space where people can enjoy the company of friendly cats, drink excellent coffee, sip fresh orange juice, and snack on delicious treats from local bakeries. It’s a family-friendly attraction that seeks to make the city a nicer, kinder place for locals and visitors alike.

At The Cat Café South Beach, we believe that the bonds between people and animals are strong and extremely important to the wellbeing of both. Cats thrive when they receive love and attention, and people benefit from their companionship. Plus, cats are just so adorable

As some of you may be able to tell just from looking outside your window, we share Miami Beach with many, many cats. It is estimated that more than 100,000 currently live on our streets. That means there are more cats than people here! With this in mind, The Cat Café South Beach was created to support the city’s on-going efforts to humanely decrease the stray cat population through its Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate Return (TNVR) program.

Since the cafe opened in November 2018, we’ve found forever homes for over 100 cats. Some of our former feline residents are still Miami Beach locals, while others now live as far as Boston, Canada, and Mexico City! Our staff has also helped to educate visitors from all over the world about the importance of TNVR programs and the different ways they can help cats in their own communities.

The Cat Café South Beach is located at 1423 Washington Avenue and is open from 1 PM until 6 PM every day except for Tuesdays. Visitors can choose to spend 30 minutes with the cats in “Purradise” for $10 or a full hour for $15. Our staff is always happy to discuss adoptions with guests if they meet a special cat they’d like to make a part of their family.

On Sundays at 12 PM, the café offers an invigorating “Purr-lattes” stretch class taught by a licensed fitness instructor, where guests learn to stretch like cats and do guided meditation focused on the delightful kitties around them. You can also take the class on Zoom!

To book time in Purradise and/or a Purr-lattes class, you can call (305) 397-8201 or go on our website. Reservations are recommended.

Small humans are welcome! We believe that learning to like and respect animals from an early age makes us better human beings. The Cat Café South Beach is a place that the whole family can enjoy and where the well-being and safety of cats and humans are top of mind.  The minimum age for visiting Purradise is 6 years old.  We ask that parents proactively facilitate the interaction between their children and cats.

A parent or guardian must sign a liability waiver for anyone visiting the cafe under the age of 18. Those under 11 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday through the end of July, we are hosting a special Kitty Day Camp from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM for children ages 6-12. At this class, campers will learn how to be responsible pet guardians and get a chance to know and care for our 20 sociable kitties. Kids will play with the feline residents, have a cat-themed storytime with a local author, and do arts and crafts in a VERY sanitary environment where they’ll be able to have tons of fun, stay safe and socially distance at the same time.

If you’d like to reserve a spot for your child at Kitty Day Camp, please email Miss Rachael (contact@rmromero.com) or Miss Maggy (maggy@ymail.com) for an application.
