Are you all jumping for joy, like me, that this school year is over? I've found out quite definitively that I am not cut out for at-home schooling. I might be happier than the kids that these days of figuring out Google Classroom, keeping a calendar of class Zoom calls, and trying to keep the kids motivated to finish their math assignments are done.
(Dear teachers, I love and miss you and won't ever take you for granted again.)
In other words, I'm ready to celebrate the end of this school year. Here are five easy ideas for last day of school fun in the time of social distancing:
1. Get silly
It's time for a water gun or silly string attack! Surprise kids after that last assignment is turned in and the computer is turned OFF!
2. Devour yummy treats
How about ice cream floats for the kids for breakfast on the last day? They'll love it.
3. Burn it!
Build a campfire and let the kids burn their school papers collected over the year. Don't forget all the s'mores makings!
4. Decorate with chalk
Decorate the paved road or sidewalks in front of your house with chalk drawings and well wishes for summer. Leave a box of chalk with a sign inviting passers-by to leave well wishes too.
5. Host a 'slumber party'
For my daughter, in the age of coronavirus, this means a Zoom call with the besties to watch a movie, giggle, and eat lots of snacks.
Happy summer. Please stay healthy and safe!
