Some risks can be prevented and others can be managed. The reality is that life is not risk free. Our job as caring adults is to prepare for potential dangers as best as we can, live our lives joyfully, take action to address the social problems that lead to bullying, school shootings, and other violence as best as we can, and teach our children to do the same!
How do we prepare for bullying and active shooting? The simple answer is train and prepare yourself and your kids. To help us doing this, in the month of September, Modern Martial Arts and Fitness will offer two workshops specifically designed for parents, caregivers and their children. Sign up now!
Active Shooter Training Workshop (age 14-up) |
It’s not something most of us like to think or talk about. Violence occurring in schools, or any other places where we live, work and study, is a scary scenario that we wish never happened. However, way too often, there are frightening stories in the news about active shooters and incidents. According to not for profit corporation Gun Violence Archive, in 2019 there were:
- Total Number of Incidents 36,995
- Number of Children (age 0-11) Killed or Injured 443
- Number of Teens (age 12-17) Killed or Injured 2,025
- Mass Shooting 272
If an event occurred, what would you or your kid do? Do you have the information and confidence you need to help prepare for, survive and recover from an attack? Modern Martial Arts and Fitness will host a 3-hour workshop to prepare you and your teenage kids with strategies and tactics to survive an active shooter threat, as well as school violence. The course is grounded in real-world evidence and features hands-on experiences to insure participants are familiar with proven tactics and strategies for responding to an active shooter incident, covering the following:
- Situational Awareness
- Coopers Colors (used by Police and Military)
- Department of Homeland Security Instructional video
- Instruction on what to do in case of an active shooter
- Actual live Active Shooter drill (class participation)

Back To School Bully Proof Workshop (age 5-12) |
The new school year has just begun. We met new teachers, spent a bunch of money on school supplies, new clothes, new shoes. We know we will probably have to deal with the occasional “I don’t want to go to school”…and in some case a fresh new batch of bullies. Bullying is all too real. Did you know that:
- Between 1 in 4 and 1 in 3 U.S. students say they have been bullied at school;
- Many fewer have been cyberbullied.
- Bullying affects all youth, including those who are bullied, those who bully others, and those who see bullying going on. Some effects may last into adulthood.

The good news is that because bullying has made national headlines, schools and communities (and even celebrities) are taking a strong stand against bullying. In view of Bullying Prevention Month, Martial Arts Instructor Joe Chao will host his 5th annual bullying prevention workshop on September 28th. Parents, care-givers and their kids are invited to join Instructor Joe Chao and his team to learn how to identify and stop bullying, help others not get bullied, stand up to bullies, and much more.

WHERE: Modern Martial Arts & Fitness 9025 Biscayne Blvd., Miami Shores, FL 33138
