BABY BASEL - The Family Friendly Solution for Art Basel Weekend

For 16 years the art world has descended on to Miami for Art Basel and the 20+ satellite fairs during Miami Art Week, a 24/7 of creativity, culture and vibrancy in the city where shorts and flip-flops are a way of life all year long. 

As parents, we have all heard so much about the benefits of art for kids - improved fine motor and problem solving skills, concentration and cognitive ability, just to name a few. However, stepping into an art fair with kids can test the endurance of the most determined among us and be overwhelming for our little ones.

Drawing from the success of Recess, a popular family centric monthly gathering at Lincoln’s Beard Brewing Co., Baby Basel is this year’s newest event happening on December 9th and 10th, where adults can embrace the art, food and music of the city, while kids play safely.

“I am a wife and mom of 2 who is creating what I feel is missing in Miami, and that's family friendly entertainment where the parents can feel like adults.  I was so involved in the Miami scene before I had kids, I don't want to miss out but I want my kids with me” said Kaaren Styles, Baby Basel co-founder, a multi-media artist and entrepreneur. “Every step of the way we keep families in mind… but this is not a Disney event and there is no Wheels On The Bus.  Parents are invited to “Basel” with their kids, park their strollers, grab a beer, and invite their non-parent friends.”

Baby Basel will feature The Beard’s craft beer and wine in addition to a full milk bar served by “The Weirdos”.  The brewery that feels like home will also be decked out with changing tables, bubbles, hula hoops, street chalk, and free water.

An Indoor Art Gallery of fine artists will feature Atomik, Derek Wilson, Diana Contreras, Luis Valle, Gabriel “Gabo” Bocanegra, Amelia St., Andy Potts and Greg Gibbs Photography. Kids from 2-14 will display their paintings in the Mini Gallery, next to decorated belly casts of some amazing moms.  My Mama Styles will showcase her new collection of handmade clothing with fabric painted by artists Julian Wong and Mendi Moon Art. 

Grammy Award winner Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, will bring his funk to headline the festival whilst a performance stage will feature local acts such as Suspens Jr., Robbie Elias, Mercury Wolff, Hialeah Gardens HS Goddesses Dance Team, Learning Of The Arts Dance, Hunjiya, Venus Fitness, DJ Blahkae and DJ Rich Flo.  

A diverse outdoor market of crafters and food vendors will provide an amazing selection of products to purchase.  Food vendors Mr. PB&J, The Tako Crew and Treetop Elephant will provide an array of fun foods.  Munchie Culture will be serving up Sunset S’mores.  Moms will be able to talk to a lactation consultant at the Nursing Nook while sipping on free Starbucks coffee.
