We are now halfway through November and Thanksgiving is only a week away. Are you ready to celebrate this Holiday Season without feeling overwhelmed?
We asked 3 local professional organizers what we should be doing today or very soon to make this time of the year more blissful and less stressful.
Sarah Giller Nelson, Less is More Organizing Services:
"Create one Family Holiday Calendar that you hang in a central place in your home. Have the calendar handy when you open up invitations or check email so it is easy to add the event to the calendar. Don't forget to schedule “white space” – open time to savor the holidays with your immediate family".
"Save time by shopping at stores that offer gift wrap services. If you buy online, have the gift wrapped and shipped directly to the recipient".
Kris White, NEAT Method:
"Prepare Guest Rooms: Make sure your guests feel welcome by having all of their needs organized in their room. We suggest a bin complete with toiletries (toothpaste, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, lint roller, etc.) and a nice candle. Place this next to a stack of fresh linens and towels and your guests will know exactly where to find everything they need".
"Tackle the Kitchen: If you’re anything like us, the holidays are all about FOOD! Since you’ll be spending most of your time in the kitchen, it’s important that your space is organized and easy to work in. Take this time to toss and replace any expired spices, get rid of any extra kitchen items you do not need, and clean out the fridge. You’ll feel much better when you start with a blank slate".
Beth Levin, The Closet Queen:
"Go through your holiday decor early in the season and get rid of items that are broken or not usable. At the same time, make a list of items that you need to replace and purchase them".
"When you put decor away for the season, make sure everything is usable for the following year".
