7 kid-friendly restaurants in North East Miami and Miami Beach

By Francesca Walker November 9, 2017

Feel like going out to eat but you still avoid restaurants and prefer to eat at home, where thrown food will hit only members of the immediate family?
Becoming a parent doesn't mean the fun has to stop and dining out can still be a pleasant experience…even with children. In order to survive the restaurant meal, you don't have to limit yourself to fast food, but rather follow a few basic rules, for example picking a place that's child-friendly (in my case a restaurant casual enough to handle the noise my children make).

We asked some local moms what are their favorite spots and why. Here are some options perfect for kids (and kids at heart), presented in alphabetical order. Some are popular family restaurants, others are hidden gems, but they all offer a satisfying meal and an environment designed to please the children too.

Ironside Kitchen
Experience fun, authentic Italian dining in the heart of Miami. Located in the historic Upper Eastside neighborhood, this Italian restaurant is family friendly, with something special for all ages. Their Italian pizza is made according to the Neapolitan Tradition; cooked on a wood fired oven and using only the finest “00” flour, tomato San Marzano, extra virgin olive oil and lots of passion!
Why: "There is a gorgeous patio with ample seating and space for the kids to play and run around." (Francesca B.)

Monty’s Sunset
Located poolside and waterfront on the docks of the picturesque Miami Beach Marina, Monty’s Sunset is South Beach’s premiere spot for casual dining, fresh-caught local seafood, a succulent raw bar, live music and the most stunning sunsets in South Florida.
Why: "They have a pool in the middle of the place". (Alisa W.T.)

Oliver’s Bistro
Oliver's Bistro has occupied the South Beach corner of West Avenue and 9th Street for about 15 years. A neighborhood sanctuary frequented by an international crowd as well, it features an outdoor pet-friendly section and a warm indoor dining area.
Why: “There is an extensive menu for both regular folk and picky eaters, a staff who greet baby by name and they have donated to community programs I have chaired”. (Louise J.D.)

Shuckers
Shuckers Bar and Grill is an iconic part of the Miami and Miami Beach landscape, one of the very first dockside restaurants on the Biscayne Bay. While the menu and the space have evolved over the last 25 years, the same focus on great food quality and service remains the same.
Why: “They have a huge sandbox you can throw them in to make new friends while you enjoy a drink.” (Kristen T.)

The Café at Books & Books
Quality ingredients, innovative concepts, and a relaxed setting combine to make The Café at Books & Book on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach a special place to dine in South Beach.
Why: “We bring the scooters or bubbles and sit close to the open area at the edge of the cafe so kids can play while we are waiting for our food.Their portions are huge, so it is easy for the kids to share.” (Sarah N.G.)

The Daily Creative Food Co.
A newspaper-themed eatery, The Daily Creative Food Co. is a fast-casual restaurant concept, currently with two locations in Miami. It is known as a neighborhood hangout with a high-energy vibe, cool music, friendly staff, serving high quality and creative food prepared in their, "From Scratch Kitchens."
Why: “The Daily is a casual setting - the family can basically wear their pajamas - inexpensive and with a huge variety of foods.” (Melanie R.)

ViaVerdi
In the MiMo historic district, Via Verdi brings the authentic Italian food to the customers in an atmosphere where they can relax, taste, and enjoy a meal as Italians do. The Italian restaurant on Biscayne Blvd was designed to provide the both casual and intimate experience in four unique dining spaces: the outdoor patio, the indoor boutique, the social bar, and La Bottega di Via Verdi.
Why: "The staff help you keep your kids busy with crayons and kids activity menus". (Stephanie P.)
